The ad is a little vague, but I heard Dennis on the radio and heard him say it starts in the Wal-Mart parking lot. I've asked co-workers from Kankakee and they are unaware of the event and say there are 2 Wal-Marts in the area. Barring OT next weekend, I hope to attend and I'm trying to get a few riding co-workers to join me. I don't remember if Dennis said there was a ride involved before or after the parade. The bike count has risen from a couple hundred to over 400 over the last few years. There is no rain date, this is it, rain or shine, and so far, the forcast is dry.

I talked to Dennis tonight. He said bikes (and cars, too) gather at 10AM at the Kankakee Wal-Mart, which is at exit 308 off of I-57, which is the same exit as the county fair grounds. First bike leaves at noon on a police escorted ride heading north out of town to Manteno, where the ride ends and the rest of the fun begins.

If I was closer, I'd join you. I used to ride to Kankakee State Park a lot. Have fun and be safe.

I met up with 2 co-workers and we rode in to Wal-mart together. The event coordinator was an ex-coworker from 20 years ago, so it was nice getting to talk to him again. The parking lot was almost all bikes. The toy shelves were picked over by an endless string of bikers and the attached Subway had a steady stream as well. All bikes fired up at noon. I was outnumbered and surrounded by VERY loud non-wings. It's a good thing I have 2 tachs so I could tell that my WING was running. The ride area consists of 3 busy towns all side by side. We zig-zagged through at least 2 of them on what seemed like a LONG, full speed, police escorted, funeral procession with police blocking major intersections. We rode to the sportsman club in Manteno where there was food, drink, and bean bag games. One rider won $525 in a 50-50 drawing and my co-worker won 3 of the 30 other prize drawings. It looked like a DJ was going to start playing, but since the weather was GREAT, the 3 of us took off for more ride time. By the time my day was done, I had ridden over 200 miles and added to my raccoon eyes tan. This event takes place every year on the second Sunday of October, so mark your calendar and maybe I'll see you there next year.
