Wing Rider

My better half, myself and my brother are headed for the Deals Gap area in North Carolina mid August. If anyone out there has any riding experience in this or the surrounding areas, I welcome the information or any suggestions. We are booked in at The Iron Horse Motor Lodge (http://ironhorsenc.com). We are headded there from northern Wisconsin so anything along the way, we are open to it.

It is a wonderfull area, I have been once last year on a bike but did not have time to properly forage the area.

Lots of law on the BRP so watch your speed, and take in the Cherohala Skyway while you are there...

Information can be found here.

Many other things to see and do, In fact Monk and I have a trip scheduled there (tentatively) for late Aug. Maybe we can hook up and shake hands.

Others will chime in with more info I am sure. You may also do a forum search for Blue Ridge Parkway as there have been several posts made regarding it here.

Hey thanks, would be cool to hook up. We will be at the Iron Horse the 21st through the 23rd for sure. I kind of want to get over to the Bonne Terre, MO area and tour the underground mines there. Thay sound really interesting.

Hey guys, I'm trying to set up a meet and greet in August as well. Trying to keep it on a weekend, but have to avoid the 27-29 as that is our CMA state rally. Let me know if your interested and when you'll be in the area.

Here's a link to the thread I've already started on it.

Heard Friday or Saturday the Dragon is all but closed right now. There have been 4 rock slides around that area. One is on the north west end just off the end of dragon by lake head to foot hills parkway. Road totally closed. You can get to dragon from Cherokee Magie Valley side and ride trhen turn around and head back. Estimate that road will only be closed a few weeks.

We rode that area last July planning on swinging back threw this summer. We are headed to Va. and down Blue Ridge Parkway. Great riding there.

I'm headed there next week. Will it be repaired by then? We're just back in Daytona from the Keys heading to Savanna by the end of the week. No, a 7 week road trip in the deville.

Don't really matter where you ride around the area, Any back road you pick will be a great ride. Check out the Smokies while you are around , The Blue Ridge is definatly always a great trip. Check this out while you are in the area.

I am only around 1.5 hours away in Kingsport Tn and know the area pretty well if you want any more info just ask.

The tail of the Dragon is a great ride, but watch out for the sport bikes. They'll pass you at speed going a round a curve and think your in the wrong at the end.

We plan on riding the Dragon's Tail on a weekday so hopefully it is a bit less busy.

Chris, I'll take any info you wish to share. If you're available when we are down there and want to hook up for a day, we will follow. We will be getting into the (http://ironhorsenc.com) on August 22nd. Anyone else is more than welcome also.
