main fuse melted

i started my 1986 honda golwing the other day the starter did not disengage i hit the kill switch that did not stop it i turned the key off that didn't stop it so i put it in gear and it stopped the main fuse was melted so it think the solenoid is bad I'm just wondering what else to look for

I'm thinking you're on the right track.  The only way I can see that happening is if the circuit in the solenoid from the ignition switch fused in the closed position.  Since the starter is connected directly to the battery, having that circuit in the solenoid closed would keep her running.  Fix that, and I think you'll have it licked.  Do you still have the dogbone fuses in there?  If so, while you're fixing the starter issue, I'd replace those with in-line spade fuses.  They're much more reliable and easier to replace.  Good luck and ride safe.
