Upgrading to a marine radio is a good idea.  They've got tons of current technology and they're easy enough to install.

Are you looking for something like this?, , , ,I have a small amount of them in stock if you're interested, , they're Unobtainium 2.1

It mounts to the same holes used for the OEM radio, , ,

The "face" of the radio sits on the top and is VERY easy to see.  There is 3" of clearance from the panel to the top of the air filter "box" at the front of the panel nearest to the dash.  There is 3.5" clearance from the panel to the top of the air filter "box" at the point where the panel angles downward to meet the gas cap door.  They come in BLACK only.

I mounted a metal plate under the legs of the panel and laid the "body" of the radio horizontally onto the plate.

This is the radio setup that I am using and it has bluetooth connectivity to iphone, USB port to charge the phone OR play MP3's from a thumb-drive, and it has an Auxiliary Input jack.

A decent Marine radio, with all the bells and whistles, doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg.  The Pyle Marine radio has 4 X 50 watts, fits nicely in the panel, and is under $100.
