Estella and I decided to ride up to old Tom Lincoln's home north of Greenup, IL.  It is where the Civilian Conservation Corps rebuilt Thomas Lincoln's home in 1934-36.  They actually had photos to follow, had the original cabin that was sold and moved to Chicago so the reproduction was dead on.  They even found the hearth from the original cabin when they started reconstruction.

It just so happened that there was a Fall Frolic at the state park this weekend in which they had numerous demonstrations of crafts from the period that Thomas Lincoln and his second wife lived at that location.  Lincoln visited their home before he was inaugurated.  They had a Lincoln look alike who was in character the whole time he was there.  Was quite an event.  They had a guy pulling a wagon around with his Ox named puppy dog.  It followed him like a puppy dog.  A 89 year old wood carver I sat and talked to said that last night the guy slept in a tent and the Ox laid down with his head in the tent and slept.

Was a nice 180 mile round trip in 91 degree weather.  Hey this is September 24th and we are supposed to be in the 70 degree stuff.  They are predicting around 90 for this coming week.

It was neat to walk where Lincoln walked, not an approximation but where he really stepped and thru the doorway space he passed thru.

It is pretty interesting to go back n time like that. It's several years since we've been to Springfield walked through the buildings from that era.

One thinks the great state of disrepair with its governor who is for his rich buddies and not the poor working people has the state in problems.  However when Lincoln was practicing law and the state capitol was in Vandalia the head of the house had the door locked so he could force a vote.  However the politicians who did not want to vote jumped out of the windows rather than vote.  It was the first floor so they were not committing suicide.  Springfield is the ceremonial capitol but Chicago has it's own capitol building and controls the state.

:Face-Crying:
