Fall Color Tour... in Michigan

The weather cooperated (for the most part) for a Color Tour in Northern part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula. Based out of a beach motel on the lower end of the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay in Traverse City, MI we spent the last two days touring the Old Mission Peninsula and the Leelanuau Peninsula. We toured by cage (wife doesn't Ride) but saw several Riders on bikes too.

The Colours were Glorious!

I love that ride up the peninsula to Old Mission LH. I normally ride along the lakeshore on west side of peninsula then take the main route back down thru the center of the peninsula.

I was up there with a group from IL touring them around the state in September and got caught in a terrible downpour with 60-70 mile winds. We was lucky enough to pull over at a small business that allowed us to use their break area shelter with a picnic table while we waited out the storm,. It passed in about 30-40 minutes or so and we had decent weather the rest of the way up to Mackinaw City from there as we rode on up thru Petoskey and Tunnel of Trees.

On the way home today I was runnin' a little late for an oil change. I stopped at this little place but no one was there,... musta been out to Lunch. The oil changin' pit was available but with no one around, no oil, no wrenchin'...

He musta been gone for a while, gas at the pump was $.30 a gallon.

Also stopped by the former home-site of the Rev George Bennard, author of the hymn The Old Rugged Cross.

Thanks you for sharing the photos. So many beautiful sights to take in around the great country.

It's a shame the old service station is in disrepair. It would make a great man cave show place for a gear head.

You got that right Mike. I love traveling the older two-lane highways just because of the chance to see old buildings like this. This one happened to be near LeRoy, MI. When I was a kid, I spent a summer with my grandmother on her old farm outside LeRoy. I would imagine back then this place was thriving.

I would guess the glass off off the top of this old pump was broken or stolen long ago...

Pretty sights along the way home.
