Is there a way to block or permanently mark a thread as read?

Specifically the Last Poster thread in the laugh-in. It keeps showing as new posts in that forum but more often than not it Is just that inane "Last Poster" thread that I don't care about.

from the first page, where you pick a thread you want to read, click on the big purple dot, or what you are using and the thread will be marked as read. or open a thread and at top of page is a check mark with " mark this forum read" and click that for same result

that works to clear it for themoment, but as soon as someone posts in the thread, the forum shows new posts again.

I am looking for a way to have the new posts from certain threads not trigger the forum to show new posts.

On the next e-mail notification look towards the bottom and you'll see a link to unsubscribe to the topic in question...

I am not subscribed to the thread and am not getting EMails, I just would like to have that thread stop showing me there are new posts in that forum, I just want to be able to ignore it completly.
