      Here's a start!   https://www.google.com/search?q=2003+gl1800+seat+heater+schematic&tbm=isch&source=iu&pf=m&ictx=1&fir=UFwPrl5nINogTM%3A%2CFu-aOFofzyAY6M%2C_&usg=__876cYgmzEFAs2Yy4R2DzMO-CAZ0%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiU_Mnm5MTXAhUF1CYKHfPiB1QQ9QEISzAD#imgrc=_&spf=1510893483633

Thanks Don. I guess I need to find schematics to an 08 or newer. I'll try looking at the 08 parts to see if I can find the control.

Mike, I would locate a schematic for this and see just what's there as far as component's in the system.. A quick search found some info on a 2008 and it appears that there is a switch/rheostat that you set the temp, a Heater Control Unit and then your seat, with a separate set-up for the grips.. I wouldn't use just a rheostat to control the temp straight to the element because there probably will be too much amperage/wattage draw for a rheostat to control without using a fairly big one as just rheostat will send current fulltime to the heating element while the Heater Control Unit will send either a "Timed" pulse or will use a thermostat to achieve the desired temperature. Either way, with the HTC, the element is not on full time which is what you want as the element being on fulltime might cause problems....   One thing that might work if you need a separate controller is one that is used with, say, a heated vest.. Just find out what the seat element wattage needs are and go from there...   If you can't find out what the wattage is for the seat element use an Ohm meter and measure the resistance that it has. Once you have that and you know what the voltage is, (say 13.5vdc), you can use this calculator to figure out the total wattage it uses. Good luck with this!!   http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-ohm.htm

Can you tell me what controls the heated seat? Can that control be added to an earlier bike or could I operate the seat with a reostat . O- 12 volts for full heat ?

My new to me Victory Cross Country Tour takes exactly the same size tires as the 1800. I bemoan the fact that Dunlop has decided to quit making the E3s radials and do not like the centre rib design the E4's and the Stone 709s as the centre rib on the front tire tends to be affected a lot more by tar snakes/grated bridge surfaces/road irregularities compared to the E3's cross tire tread pattern on the front.   To those of you who have ridden both brand/models on your 1800s, which one has less tendency to follow tar snakes, wear, grip,  handling in wet n dry conditions etc?? Up here in Canada, there is $100 price difference for a set of tires between those 2 brands, which I am considering as replacement tires to the Victory's OEM Dunlop E3s   Feed back through actual usage of those 2 brand models is appreciated!!   Dusty
